Today, I am going to share my favorite clean and non-toxic all-purpose cleaner recipe with you. Not to be cliche or obnoxious, but it is true that over the past year, since we first went into lockdown, people are looking more and more for easy solutions to keep everyone well. One of the simplest ways to do so is to keep the house clean with a non-toxic spray that is safe to use on every surface!
First, some science.
This is a super easy recipe and I’ll share it in a second but first, I want to share a little bit of the science behind the ingredients with you. In this cleaner, I use Lemon and On Guard Essential Oil. These are two of the most powerful immunity and cleansing oils out there.
Let’s start with On Guard. This blend includes oils such as Wild Orange, Clove, Cinnamon Bark, Eucalyptus, and Rosemary. As our immunity blend, it can be used to protect against environmental and seasonal threats and support healthy immune function. Studies like this one by doTERRA scientists suggest that “doTERRA On Guard may regulate many important pathways relevant to healthy inflammatory response, wound healing, cellular health, and immune response”. I’ll leave it there when it comes to the science-y language. Let the experts speak for themselves!
Lemon oil is my all-time favorite. It is my best friend in the whole wide world. I have it in my water right now and my tea. I have a bottle on my bedside table and a bottle next to my computer as I write this. It is everywhere. I feel it is my duty to let it know how loved it is. The main components of Lemon oil are limonene, ß pinenes, and γ-terpimene. All of these are monoterpenes, which means they possess uplifting characteristics. It also means they are purifying and cleansing for everything from household surfaces to our internal bodily systems. This is doTERRA’s roundup of the benefits of Lemon oil. Take a look!
And now the recipe!
Note: I specify a stainless steel or glass spray bottle. This is very important. Pure essential oils can leach toxins from plastic containers and end up mixing those chemicals into whatever is inside. While this matters far more when you are ingesting the contents, I like to make it a universal rule in our home to only have stainless steel or glass containers. We have hardly any plastic because I want to be able to use my oils with whatever I need without worrying. They also look so much nicer!
